FOOD & DRINK ON BRYHER

There is certainly no lack of foodie options on our little island! There isn't a dress code anywhere, as such, as Scilly is so relaxed, although people do tend to dress a little smarter when visiting hotel restaurants.

  • Bryher Shop and Post Office has a very wide range of groceries, including freshly baked bread, pasties, fresh meats and fruit and vegetables. The shop has an amazing deli counter full of cheeses, deli meats, pates, and olives; perfect for picnics. There is also a selection of toys, stationery and beach accessories. The shop offers a free home delivery service (for orders over £30.00) and you can order online so everything can be in your cottage or chalet for your arrival. Special dietary requirements can be catered for and the shop stocks a variety of gluten free and soya products (please call to ensure your specific requirements are in stock. Items can be ordered in if necessary if given a weeks notice) (01720 423601).

  • Non residents are welcome at Hell Bay Hotel for morning coffee, lunches and evening drinks on the terrace. Evening meals are available in either the 3 rosette restaurant or in the bar for bar meals. During the summer months the popular 'pop up' Crab Shack operates offering freshly caught Bryher crab along with scallops and mussels. The Crab Shack is open from May - September on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights (and also additional nights in July & August, according to demand). For all eating options at Hell Bay, booking is essential via the hotel reception (01720 422947).

  • Fraggle Rock Bar & Cafe overlooks the Channel to Hangman's Island and Tresco, and is well stocked with a wide range of wines, spirits and beers and also a wide range of soft drinks, teas and coffees. Food is served most days in the season but it’s always worth checking ahead to make sure the kitchen is open. Their Friday Fish & Chip night is world-famous! Phone to book for evening meals, including fish & chips. (01720 422222).

  • Olivia's Kitchen at the Vine, is a small, family-run cafe situated in “the Town” in what was originally a flower and bulb shed (previously Vine Cafe). The cafe is open daily (closed Saturdays) from April to the end of October for hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, snack lunches, and fabulous home-made cakes. Evening meals are also available on Wednesday and Sunday evenings (01720 423168).

  • Island Fish LtdEstablished in May 2015, Island Fish Ltd offers fresh crab, lobster, wet fish, crab quiche, picked crab, potted crab, crab rolls, lobster salads and more! Situated in a new timber building at Bar, near Bryher Boatyard, this family business consists of three generations of Penders carrying on the centuries old tradition of supplying fish and shellfish to Scilly. Takeaway paella is available on Thursday evenings, and takeaway half lobster, wedges and slaw on Sunday evenings. Phone to book (01720 423880).

  • Hillside Farm is a small working farm situated towards the southern end of Bryher (two minutes walk from the cottages and just opposite our holiday chalets!). In Spring and Summer they sell their own Bryher Pork & Beef, vegetables, salad crops, strawberries, cut flowers and free range eggs etc from the stall by the farmhouse. (01720 423156)

  • Veronica Farm Fudge is made by hand, in a dedicated fudge kitchen using local milk, butter and clotted cream in traditional pans. The small batches of various flavours are packed daily. This quality product is sold at various outlets on the Islands and at the farm gate, down towards Green Bay. You can also order online. (01720 422862)

  • Mike and Sue Pender. From their stall in front of their house, Dawn Vue (on the way to Fraggle Rock Bar & Cafe), Mike & Sue sell eggs from their chickens and ducks, as well as vegetables and plants.

As well as all this, Tresco Boat Services offer evening trips for meals on other islands during the summer months. Boat trips are advertised daily on boards around the island (on Bank Cottage, opposite Atlanta; outside Jenford and at Fraggle Rock; plus in Reception at Hell Bay). Booking a few days in advance for these evening trips is essential. Please call 01720 423373 or email trescoboats@tresco.co.uk for more information.
